The image which you are using for Custom Thumbnails  it should be smaller than 2 MB. We recommend you the best quality  is W: 1920 and H: 1080 or 1280 X 720 for common size for Thumbnails. Don’t try to upload in any appropriate pictures in your Video Thumbnails.

Now in this tutorial, we will show you how to set your own thumbnail image for your YouTube video.  If you are not seeing a custom thumbnail button, then follow instructions given below:

Steps To Add Custom Thumbnail Image For Your YouTube Video

Step 1: Click on the upper right-hand corner to get video manager. This will take you to the section where it has all the uploaded videos.

Step 2: Select a Video to Edit which you want to customize the thumbnail – Click on edit button and YouTube will automatically select three thumbnails which you can choose from and in that one will be great, 

But I want you to use this step because it is going to bring more conversions. It is about more people who clicking on that video and watching the video and to do it will have a custom thumbnail button so that you’re able to upload.

Step 3: File Size of Custom Thumbnail – YouTube suggest using 1280 pixels by 720 pixels. You can upload it as a JPEG, PNG, whatever and it should not be more than 2MB. 

Step 4: Take Screen Shot of the Custom Thumbnail – On Windows you can use the snipping tool and on Mac hit command, shift & 4.

Step 5: You can edit through using software like Paint, Photoshop or you can Edit through Custom Thumbnail at http://www.Pixlr.com - You start customizing the thumbnail. Using Colours and Text which will stand out.

Step 6: Upload the custom Thumbnail: We have to come back to our channel and to get back where we need to be and need to go ahead and hit edit. Then let's go again to the video manager. 

Again, let's hit the edit button. And we'll now you will get this custom thumbnail and upload the image what we just did.
